Something that is casual enough to just throw on and head out the door for a day out shopping or lunch without looking frumpy or like I tried too hard. No tube or smocked dresses, preferably empire-line, knee-length, colourful, loose cotton dresses that would look great with Converse shoes or sandals alike.
